Rhinoplasty, or a nose job is by far one of the most popular cosmetic procedures available at the plastic surgeon. However, as the years go by more and more patient’s fear going under the knife and are looking for less-invasive, non-surgical means of nasal correction.
A “non-surgical nose job” is a procedure we offer, where a patient is able to alter the aesthetics of the nose without having to undergo a surgical procedure. We use dermal fillers, like Botox, to alter the appearance of the nose.
How does a Botox nose job work?
Botox is a dermal filler that relaxes the muscles at the site of injection. The nose has a number of muscles that aid in its unique shape. A Botox injection into these muscles can relax the muscle and stifle its hold on the surrounding tissue, altering the shape of the nose.
The most common ways the nose is altered using Botox is by creating a more defined, well-contoured, “upturn”, or to soften the lines along the side of the nostrils.
When Botox is injected into the muscle which holds the tip downward, that muscle begins to relax its grip and let the nose naturally move upward. This creates the appearance of an “upturn” and gives the nose a slightly pointed, “perky” appearance. In doing this, the entire nose looks slightly thinner and pointed.
When Botox is injected into the outer sides of the nose, the lines causing the curvature of the nostrils begin to relax and cause the nostrils to thin out. This gives the impression of an overall thinner nose as well.
How long does it last?
This procedure generally must be repeated every 6-8 months in order to keep the desired effect.
Side Effects or Downtime?
The overall benefit of the Botox nose job is a thinner more pointed nose, without the need for surgery or an extensive recovery time. The procedure is done within minutes and the effects are immediate. There is no downtime and patients can resume normal activities immediately.
