Microblading has become one of the hottest trends to hit the aesthetics industry in quite some time. At Long Island Dermatology we are excited to introduce Microblading and other semi-permanent makeup procedures to our practice.
One thing that almost every woman (and many men!) has in common is the desire for thicker, more pronounced, aesthetically pleasing eyebrows. Yet very few were blessed with the perfect eyebrows we see in magazines or above the eyes of our favorite celebrities.
For some patients, thin eyebrows are simply a genetic issue, however for others it could be a direct result of their diet or a symptom of disease/trauma. The most common reasons for thinning eyebrows are:
- Aging: As we age certain hormones become depleted, as a side effect the individual may experience thinning hair. That can present itself on either the scalp, the eyebrows or even along the body.
-
Overplucking: This is far more common than it may seem. When an eyebrow is plucked it can take over 6-weeks for it to grow back, however long-term plucking can cause damage to the hair follicle itself, causing it to never grow back!
-
Poor Diet: When certain nutrients are depleted in the body, it can cause hair loss, not just on the scalp.
Some of the less common reasons:
- Atopic Dermatitis
- Alopecia Aereata
- Chemotherapy
For those who cannot achieve those picturesque eyebrows, Long Island Dermatology offers some of the best Microblading NYC has to offer!
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a form of cosmetic tattooing, similar to all forms of tattooing, pigment is implanted under your skin with a manual handheld device similar to a tattoo machine. Using hair-like strokes the microblading tool mimics your natural eyebrows hair strands, and provides the thick, perfectly even eyebrows you’ve always wanted.
The fine strokes look extremely similar to an individual’s natural hair follicles, so much so that you won Using semi-permanent ink, it is essentially tattooed in place of your eyebrows. The ink however, isn’t placed as deep as a traditional tattoo, keeping the ink from bleeding through the skin and keeping the fine, thin, hair-like strokes that make it look so natural. Generally, microblading treatments are thought to be permanent, however they last anywhere from 2-4 years without the need to be retouched!
